Winter RV Trip 2011John and I headed South in mid Oct. We travelled almost the same route as last year, down through Revelstoke, Lethbridge,Coutts and across the border. We did not go through Salt lake City this year as there was far too much construction going on down there. We headed towards Jackpot, Nevada and down through Las Vegas and on to Palm Springs. Here are a few pics along the way.
Travelling through the Canadian Rockys
We made it to just outside Calgary the first day and stayed the night in the parking lot of the "Stoney Nakoda Resort Casino"
Gizmo enjoying the trip
We are now heading further South down through the Lethbridge area. By the way a beautiful town along the way was Nanton,AB.We fuelled up here. We spent the next couple of nights in the parking lot at Casino Lethbridge Excellent parking facilities
As you will see the scenery changes alot along the way as we travel South to Vegas
Gizmo taking another siesta
We made it to Las Vegas. John and I enjoyed staying at the KOA at Circus Circus. It is central and not too expensive. We enjoyed seeing the "Blue Man Group" show, touring the city and eating at various restaurants. John and I had to take the new Smart car for a drive down the strip and of course get a couple of good pictures of it.
I always love going to the Venetian Casino. It has the most beautiful interior walkways and exterior surroundings
Time to eat on the strip. John and I found an awesome Mexican restaurant John and I had their Taco de Asadoand the Taco de Adobada that day. Awesome!!! We also went back the next day and tried the Adobada fries
Tacos and fried green onions

Flavorful carne asada or adobada meat
On our way to Palm Springs we stopped for a lunch break and so did this truck full of bee hives. We did not get out of the vehicle!!! See next picture.
The bees were not totally contained within the hives. They were taking a little break themselves. I made sure all our windows and fans were closed!
So our refrigerator died the morning we were leaving Las Vegas. The cooling unit finally kicked the bucket. There was an intense smell of ammonia and the recall device we had installed in March did its job of shutting down the fridge before it went into thermal runaway. We opened all the windows and had all the fans going in the coach until we reached Palm Springs. we had an RV Tech give us an estimate on replacing the cooling unit vice installing a residential fridge. We went with the residential fridge. Below is a picture of what we used to store our food until our new fridge arrived.
This is what the cabinet looked like after the Norcold 1200 was removed
Pictures of the new fridge and any other info for this trip will be under the 2011 link at the top of the page. I have not uploaded the new renovations yet as they are not complete. We also got the dinette cushions recovered as it was time.
